You are what makes the Coalition's work possible. If you are interested in volunteering with one of our partners, making a donation, or showing your support by becoming a member of the Coalition, please see the index to your left.
There are lots of other actions you can take to make a difference as well:
- Visit our Get Informed page. Understanding the problem is always the first step.
- Cultivate empathy and understanding in yourself and your community. Respect homeless people as individuals and respond with kindness. Stand up against NIMBY (Not In My Backyard) attitudes when you hear them.
- Be an advocate. Write letters to the editors of newspapers supporting housing and assistance for people who are homeless. Support local projects that provide homes and supports for those who need them.
- Ask your municipality to allow homeowners to build secondary suites and ensure that new condominiums have no rental restrictions. This is one of the least expensive forms of rental accommodation.
- Invite speakers on homelessness and housing to your organization, school, business or community events. To engage a speaker from the Coalition, contact Maggie Kerr-Southin at maggie.ks@solvehomelessness.ca.
- Donate in-kind contributions through your business. For example, if you own an accounting firm, consider donating your services for a few hours once a month to an agency.
- Organize a fundraising event in your school, neighbourhood or workplace, or make it a family project.
- Help people find and keep jobs by donating clothing, money for transportation or bus tickets and passes, and tools for trades. These donations are always needed year-round and can be made at any social service agency that helps people who are homeless or at risk of being homeless.
