Staying Accountable and On Track

Streets to Homes Finds—and Retains—Homes for Greater Victoria’s Vulnerable People
A year-and-a-half after its launch, the Streets to Homes pilot program has currently housed 84 people who were living in homelessness: 69 participants in private market housing, 10 participants in supported housing and 5 in transitional housing. Significantly, the retention rate for those housed in private market units for six months or more is 95%.

Message from students at South Park Family School about homelessness
Dear Readers,
Over the past few months Div.7, of South Park Family School, has been helping the homeless. We have collected 400 blankets and donated them to Rock Bay Landing Homeless Shelter. We have also collected socks, sleepingbags, gloves, soaps and shampoos.

City of Victoria candidates speak out on housing, harm reduction & food security
Campaigns for the upcoming municipal election are in full swing! To help you get informed before casting your vote, we are offering an opportunity to learn more about candidates’ views on pertinent issues in the Capital Regional District. We invited candidates to participate in a survey asking 4 questions on their plans to address poverty and affordable housing.
Today we are posting the responses from Victoria candidates. Survey respondents have been invited to an all-candidates meeting on November 9, 2011 at First Metropolitan Church, 925 Balmoral Road from 7 to 9pm.
