Times Colonist
Victoria deputy police chief John Ducker was recognized for his work helping the homeless at a breakfast Thursday organized by a group of social agencies that focus on homelessness, mental illness and addiction.
Ducker helped create the Victoria Integrated Community Outreach Team, a group of health and social workers and police that helps people with mental illness find housing and support. He also worked with Rev. Harold Munn of St. John the Divine Anglican church to open up more emergency weather shelter beds.
The Downtown Services Providers, chaired by Rev. Al Tysick of Our Place drop-in centre, presented Ducker with a plaque and thanked him for his extensive community involvement.
Ducker was a member of the Mayor's Task Force on homelessness and has been involved in the Greater Victoria Coalition to End Homelessness.
