Coalition To End Homelessness calls for proposals for capital projects for supportive housing

Feb. 05, 2010

In April 2007, the Government of Canada introduced the Homelessness Partnering Strategy (HPS) to provide funding for housing for people experiencing homelessness. The 2009 federal budget confirmed an extension of the HPS at current funding levels to March 31, 2011.
Program funding for the Greater Victoria area will be up to a maximum of $1,250,046, which includes a maximum of $814,105 in ‘designated funds’ and $435,941 in Aboriginal funds. The Call for Proposals states that one or two capital projects will be selected.

The Call closes March 15, 2010. Detailed information about the scope of the call and how to apply can be found on the Coalition’s website at www.solvehomelessness.ca/33p_calls-for-proposals.htm.

An information session will be held on February 16, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at Service Canada’s Victoria office at 595 Pandora Avenue (4th floor).

The Greater Victoria Coalition to End Homelessness is a community-based partnership of service providers in the non-profit and public sectors, advocates, business representatives and elected municipal officials, formed in February 2008 to lead the region’s commitment to end homelessness.

The goals of the Greater Victoria Coalition to End Homelessness are to house and support those who are homeless; provide the necessary infrastructure to lead, coordinate, monitor and ensure results on Victoria’s homelessness crisis; and to prevent homelessness from occurring in the future.
